Beginning Photography

This is a beginning photography course exploring the basic elements of the medium from analog through digital image-making. By the end of this 5-session class students will feel comfortable with varying methods of producing photographs using their camera (from creating engaging portraits, to capturing landscape scenes to understanding lighting principles and methods). Through a combination of presentation, hands-on demonstrations and exercises, students will learn the basics of photography, allowing them to make better photographs and engage with this profound visual language. We will be covering the essential components of image making as it relates to fine art and the photographic medium.

About the Instructor

Dara Rosenwasser, Cal Poly Extended Ed Instructor

Dara Rosenwasser is a practicing Central Coast artist with a background in strengthening community through visual storytelling and oral history projects. She received her MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and her BFA in photography from Seattle University. She has worked as a professional photographer since 2005, and continues to exhibit her work on a national level.
