Coding for Kids: Game Design

In this full-day of beginning coding, kid hackers will be in a college computer lab under the direction of skilled Computer Science teachers and student assistants. Each student will each have their own station to learn new skills using tools and curriculum developed at Google and MIT. In this Game Design class, students learn basic programming concepts as they build different types of video games. No previous programming or video game experience is necessary and students are encouraged to continue their projects at home after the class. Ages 9 - 13 (Grades 3 - 7)

Coding for Kids: Art & Web Design

In this full-day of beginning coding, kid hackers will be in a college computer lab under the direction of skilled Computer Science teachers and student assistants. Each student will each have their own station to learn new skills using tools and curriculum developed at Google and MIT. In this Art themed class, students create animations, interactive artwork, photo filters, and other artistic projects. In the last hour of class, students will be introduced to basic web design concepts and encouraged to continue their projects at home. No previous programming experience is required. Ages 9 - 13 (Grades 3 - 7)

Coding for Kids: Animation & App Development

In this full-day of coding, kid hackers will be in a college computer lab under the direction of skilled Computer Science teachers and student assistants. Each student will each have their own station to learn new skills using tools and curriculum developed at Google and MIT. In this intermediate animation class, students will create fun and complex animated projects. In the last hour of class, students will be introduced to iOS/Android app development concepts and encouraged to continue their projects at home after the class. Note: this is an intermediate class and is recommended for students who have previously been exposed to programming concepts or completed 5th grade. Ages 10 - 14 (Grades 4 - 8)

About the instructor(s)

Erik Dungan is a software engineer, entrepreneur, and Cal Poly computer science major from Arroyo Grande, CA. As a kid, Erik began programming BASIC on an Atari 400. Erik has founded multiple software startups, most recently BIG Folio which serves professional photographers and was acquired in 2014. Erik returned to Cal Poly part-time in 2015 and currently serves as a senior engineer at a mobile ecommerce startup. He currently programs in Ruby and Swift and has shipped multiple apps to the IOS App Store.
